carpet cleaner rental

moving out of my apartment, need to clean the carpets, lest i be charged a fortune for it... i know most albertsons rent these things out, i was wondering if anyone knew how much they'd cost, how good they work, and if there's anywhere else i should look to rent one.

edit: noticed another post along these lines, but i'm interested in doing it myself, if it'll save me the money vs. hiring someone.

I've rented the carpet cleaner from HEB to remove stains from my dogs and it worked really well. I think it's like $20 for the unit and you get it for 24 hours. Then, you also have to buy the cleaner, which is another $5-7 per bottle. So, expect to spend about $30, but it's worth it. I'm guessing Albertsons has the same type of units as HEB does.

There is a hardware store up on 183 called "the hardware Store" that rents the best damn carpet cleaner I have ever used. Pay the little extra for the scrubber head attachment. It works GREAT!

I will also say that one of the things that helps ANY carpet steam cleaner is to have a bucket in your tub where you can take ALREADY hot water and use it to get started.

you might just want to price some carpet cleaning companies. They take care of everything and you can make a copy of the receipt for you landlord. We did this for the last place we moved out of and it was not that expensive, but then we did spit it four ways.
