Caroline Kennedy-Obama: A President Like My Father

Ronald Reagan inspired America.

John F. Kennedy inspired America.

JFK's daughter is correct!!! Obama will also inspire America and we will be a better country as a result.

What has Caroline Kennedy ever done other than get born from notable parents? While I happen to agree with her endorsement of Obama she has even less influence over me than the Joe I meet on the street. I have zero interest in the opinions of a person who has done nothing more than get born within an old political dynasty.

How many Hollywood starlets has he nailed? Is his daddy buying him the election too?

I have no problem w/ Obama...I may very well vote for him. I just get tired of the Camelot view that Kennedy's administration is always viewed through.

It is not the endorsement of Kennedy but the title of the endorsement that will make the most impact.

The comparison of Obama to JFK last night on CNN was very moving.

This just adds to that snowball.

Disclaimer: There is a real chance that I will vote for Obama in 2008.

Obama unites people because he wants to get out of Iraq and because he says nothing about policy specifics unless he is talking to a very homogenous demographic (i.e. "All options on the table vs. Iran" to AIPAC). Once he actually removes the troops (and he will, barring another Democratic brain fart a la John F'ing Kerry), he will be every bit the uniter that Shrub was. See how much bipartisan support he has after he starts pushing gun control legislation and tax hikes. He will be vulnerable in 2012.

I have to say, I agree with Caroline Kennedy Obama. And that's what frightens me about Obama.

JFK gave people "hope". The facade of Camelot has been held up to the world as more real and permanent than the Egyptian Pyramids. All of the Civil Rights legislation that LBJ passed often gets associated with JFK. But if it hadn't been for LBJ, NONE of that stuff would have gone through. In fact, the ONE thing that I can really remember JFK doing that was "successful" was standing up to the Soviets in the Cuban Missiles Crisis. Other than that, JFK was WAY in over his head.

I see the same thing for Obama. He's got MUCH LESS legislative experience than JFK. His feel good warm fuzzies can only last so long before he gets his *** handed to him on any number things. I admit I haven't read his book (the audacity of me), but I have no idea what he has EVER done. Basically he got elected unopposed (mas o menos) in 2004 and has been campaigning for the presidency ever since. So he's in his 5th straight year of campaigning. I got it, he's a good speaker.

JFK was on his way to being a "one termer" whether he got lead poisoning in Dallas back in Nov of '63 or not. He would have never
been remembered that fondly if he hadn't been assissinated. That's been stated umpteen times on this board by Republicans and privately acknowledged by Democrats.

I only think that "Hope" goes so far, before people start demanding results. And as a guy who leans Left of Center, I do not like the idea of a snake oil salesmen ruining Washington for 4 years only to give it back to the Republicans for 8 to 12 years or more.

THAT is the concern of this "lefty".

ZZZZ

Those numbers had me worried until the SC results last night.

Obama had an 8-15% lead in SC and won by 27%. The landslide win will make a big difference in Georgia. The endorsement by the Kennedys will be huge in Mass.

Teddy's endorsement will also be big in CA and AZ. In the CA poll numbers, Hillary has a huge lead with Hispanics. Kennedy will be in commercials on Spanish language TV in CA showing him speaking to a crowd of 500K at the immigration rally in DC and he will state that Obama stood with him to craft and support the Kennedy/McCain immigration bill.

Also keep in mind that all of the Dem primaries are proportional. Neither candidate will win enough delegates on Super Tuesday. I don’t know who will win in the end, but I like having the momentum. Obama volunteers in CA placed over 200K calls to fellow Californians yesterday, and most were before the landslide victory. I have not heard the numbers for today, but I would bet that they were even better. We have the wonderful problem of having so many who want to volunteer, that it is difficult to process all of them. It will be an exciting next month or 2.

Napoleon:

I don’t agree with you that Obama will be a one term President, but it is better than being a no term President. It does not take too long on this board to understand how difficult it will be for Hillary to win even one term.

There is a reason that red state governors and Congressmen/women are endorsing Obama. They know that he will attract a huge turnout of Dems (he won more votes in SC than all of the Dem candidates combined in 04.) They also know that he will not energize the Repub base to come out to vote the way Hillary would.

Hillary will have little or no coattails. With the turnout he is attracting including independents and some Repubs, Obama will have coattails. A fundraiser that I went to tonight was hosted by a woman who is still registered as a Repub. She is not ready to change her party affiliation even to Declined to State, which means she won't be able to vote for Obama in the CA primary, but she did host a very nice and successful fundraiser. .

I was discussing the Clinton - Obama issue with a friend. His take was that Clinton is a know quantity, which is exactly my point with her. Everything that I know of her points towards an average to slightly above average presidency. IMO, Obama has the chance to be a great president. Now, the chances of anybody being a great president is not all that good. But even the possibility is rare enough that you take it when it presents itself.

Why is it that people need some freaking empty suit politician with a gift for public speaking to inspire them? This is America. Being here in this country should inspire you. If that doesn't providing the best life for you and your family should. Get out there and do it yourself and stop counting on these Washington dickheads for everything. They will provide nothing but rhetoric, more problems than solutions and turn pretty much everything they touch to ****. So get inspired by America and everything that it is, take care of your own, and we'll all be better off. Let Washington die on the vine or something. That town needs an enema and a lot of change, but not in the oval office per se. The rules of the ******** in Congress and how long they can stay is what needs a change. Good luck to us all in getting them to vote themselves out of jobs. What would people like Sheila Jackson Lee, or John McCain do if that were the case? Geez.

WOW...those polls numbers posted by ZZZZZ don't seem at all realistic given what has transpired thus far. I just don't see HRC taking more than 43% of the vote in any state as long as Edwards is still in it.
