Carnation breakfast bars

I used to love these when I was a kid, especially the Peanut Butter & Chocolate variety. Does anyone else remember them? Why don't they make these anymore? Did they contain enough preservatives for me to find an old box of them on eBay that is still edible? I don't remember seeing these on store shelves since the late eighties...

I used to eat them too. My mom did not stock them often though because I would eat a couple or few at a time. They were candy to me, not a meal. I mean, how can I ruin my appetite if I have already eaten, right? She did not see it that way.

I do remember a diet supplement that she took that had an unfortunate name. AYDS. "Can you go to the store and get me AYDS?"

My family never bought them, (We didn't buy much of anything back in the '70s & '80s) but one of my best friend's family ALWAYS had them in their cupboard. I would usually steal at least one every time I went over there. They were like crack. I was just thinking about them last week.

My mom would get the "instance breakfast" drink mix. yuck.

Carnation Instant Breakfast is the bomb.

Take the dark chocolate flavor, throw it in a blender with some milk, ice, and a banana. Bam, delicious healthy breakfast milkshake.

I love the instant breakfast! I've been eating one of those almost everyday for the last 25 years or so. My son eats them now too. I buy the "no sugar added" kind and tell him it's chocolate milk.

We used to get the breakfast bars to take on camping and kayaking trips. Haven't seen them in many years.

Man....I used to devour those things on a daily basis.

But rarely, if ever, for breakfast. Alaways after school. Go figure.


The closest thing to Breakfast Bars that I've found these days is something called the "Zone Perfect Bar".

I remember those Ayds candies. I don't know what they put in them but they tasted like ****.

I liked the drink, too. Especially, the strawberry flavor.
