We spent 5 days at a Sandals resort in the Bahamas. It was awesome. I know some probably think Sandals is cheesy, but we had a blast. No kids allowed, so it was basically couples only. It's an all-inclusive place, so we ate till our tummies hurt at every meal and drank all day without having to worry about what our bill was. We went in March, and the weather was perfect. Not sure about January.
Think we spent $2,000 for the 5 days, but literally used hardly any out of pocket money once we got there. spent one day out in the real Nassau seeing the sites, so spent a few bucks here and there, but your money is no good at the resort. They don't accept tips or anything like that. So, it was $2,000 and whatever the plane trip was, and that was about it.
This is where my wife and I went and it was great! We did an all in with the airfare from DFW. I don't remember what it cost, I think it was a bit more than your budget maybe. I just can't not share this place with you.
UTFan,
it was VERY sweet. My travel agent recommended it, and to be honest I thought I might be a bit underwhelmed. I had wanted to go to Italy. My travel agent said this place is tropical, better beaches, and so easy to get to with a very short flight from DFW. It was VERY nice to have a short flight after the LONG wedding day. We got down there.. greeted with a cool towel and a glass of champagne before we even checked in! There is a concierge for each of the small villas. Each restaurant takes reservations to ensure that they are hardly full at all. It is so private!
Check out the Azia restaurant. There is one of those private dining rooms with the benches, rice paper walls, etc... doesn't cost anything to eat there, but you just have to request it. At least that is what happened with us... plate after plate of sashimi.... WOW...
Yea, I want to save to take my wife back there for our 5th anniversary... it was GREAT. great things to do out and about as excursions too. and it is right by Playa del Carmen.
If you like quiet, relaxed, totally pure and spotless, the island of Saba is the nicest place I've seen in the Caribbean .... and where I spent my honeymoon.
Incredible diving etc...
Saba is surrounded by an underwater national park so there is virtually no fishing and is extremely unusual because of all the volcanic venting that takes place under the water around the island.
It's only five square miles (so about 2.5 miles x 2.0 miles) or something but has a peak on it that is roughly 2700 feet high and surrounded by a rain forest. It is a dormant volcano.
Whitman,
I was there in June of 05' for our honeymoon, right before the big hurricane.
From looking at pictures the beach doesn't seem to be much smaller. It is a fairly steep beach there, and was before the big hurricane hit.
I will say the water was crystal clear with good diving on the reef.
here is the view 20 feet from the screen door from the house rented on Grand Turk. Laid back island with Great Diving - though they may have taken a bad hit from IKE... previously no hurricane hit since 1964... beaches in Grand Turk are nice - but even better in Providenciales... PM for more details
