Carib in Feb, Need Suggetions

Flights and hotels for Maui have gone off the charts. $1200 per seat and $600 per night. Fogidaboudit. We did Mayan Rivera and Zihuatenejo the last couple of years so want to venture east.

Looking for your suggestions on good destinations, and perhaps hotel.

We like it quiet. A morning workout, mild adventure during the day, boozy sunsets. Or some variation on that theme. Preferred Puerto Morelos to Playa del Carmen, Zihuatenejo to Ixtapa,for example. Naturally I want the wife to be happy with cushy digs, and a beautiful spot. We have a week.

Talk about CHEAP for some of these places. Obviously, you won't have people waiting on you hand and foot...but it might leave some coin for some pretty cool adventures, and PLENTY of boozy sunsets!

Sorry NB.......we went the first weekend in April, which was also the first "out of season" weekend. Plus it was 13 years ago.

Didn't realize it was that pricey.

Used VRBO last year for a trip to Cabarete, Dominican Republic and its awesome. I've had other friends use it for ski trips and had a great experience as well.
