career question for recent college graduate

got a friend, her son is graduating in August after 2.5 years at North Texas, blitzed through college with the idea of getting to law school as quickly as possible, has a 3.7 or 3.8 gpa.

problems,

1.he can't get into law school right now because mandatory orientation is during summer school and he is finishing with a bang, probably just a standard full load.

2. Major is criminal justice, he just turned 20 a couple of days ago, so according to her, he can't even apply to be a police officer, not old enough.

3. he was so busy taking so many hours and working he didn't spend hardly any time prepping for the LSAT, so he has a mediocre score.

my suggestion was to get a job in the system, maybe JDO, etc. but if he's not old enough I guess he just works at his convenience store job for a year, retake LSAT, and go in next year.

comments, suggestions?

You got it right, I think. Get a McJob that allows the time to study for the LSAT, re-take it and hit the ground running at a later date.

if finances arent an issue, tell him to get a masters in a related field.

couldnt hurt, kills some time, and makes him more marketable to law schools.

thanks, yeah finances are an issue, only in that he is unlike a lot of younger students, he is very concerned about the amount of student loan debt he is incurring.

Pretty cocky, too, as most 20 year olds who are ready to graduate, I'm sure, right now he's not even convinced he needs to retake the LSAT.

pretty sure he'll come around on that.
