car a/c help

I had my frion charged on saturday. It is already blowing hot air and I can hear a hissing sound coming fromt the vent. Apparantly they didn't test for leaks. Two questions.
1. How hard should it be to get my money back, nd
2. How expensive will this be to fix? Is there away to find the leak myself and do some kind of ghetto patchwork?
the car is a 2000 xterra

I just went through this with my 00 Frontier.
At first I used an AC patch kit from Auto Zone. It is about $10 and really easy to use. It will seal the leaks and adds freon at the same time.
Worked for about 6 months, but then a hose went out and I had to replace it. New Upper AC hose was $62.00
Good as new now.

You will be extremely lucky if you put any kind of stop leak product in an automotive air conditioning system and a) have it fix anything, or b) not damage something, especially the expansion valve.
The shop should have discussed adding leak-detecting dye or some other leak detection method with you prior to doing the work, because the system would not be empty if it did not have a leak.
Call the shop and discuss the situation with them. They may refill the system, or offer to check for leaks. If you intend to keep the car, fix it properly, don't put some goop in there that will have to be flushed out at a lot of expense later by someone who wants it to work right.

Accurate, they did put the dye in there before they replaced the part. I got to watch them do it all and it was pretty interesting. I know the guy that runs the shop so he didn't charge me for anything but their cost on the part.
