Capturing Images from WinMedia/Divx Players

Anyone know of any programs, legal or otherwise, that can capture images from windows media player or a divx player? Anytime I try to use a screen capture program, there is a black box instead of an image-- I assume this is some type of copyright protection built into these programs, but I figure there has to be some kind of program out there than can capture still images from mpg/avi/divx files?

thanks in advance

This may not work exactly the way you were hoping, but if you do a shift+printscreen, it will copy an image to your clipboard and then you can paste it into photoshop or wherever and trim out the parts that aren't the media player. I haven't actually ever used a program that's designed to do this, so this may be the worst way possible for what you are trying to do.

it's strange, i've tried that before, and if you do it, and then paste it into, say photoshop, it will show the live video playing (if it's playing the background on your computer), and as soon as you close the video, it turns black in photoshop.

don't know if that makes any sense, but someone has to know what i'm talking about.

answering my own question but in windows media player, go to tools, options, then performance tab, and select None on the Video Acceleration tab.

still trying to figure out how to get it to work in divx player.
