It's interesting to me how much people make so I usually read the annual salary survey put out by Parade magazine (which I used to read in the Sunday paper when those things existed).
The Link

This link shows Captain Sully, American Hero, making $100,000 which is probably about half his true salary as a veteran airline pilot living in the upscale area of Danville, CA. How did Parade get this figure? Did the Captain just give out round number and underestimate to protect his privacy?

Meanwhile, we have Tammy, aged 37, a pet sitter and dog walker from St. Louis stated at $100,000 a year also. Wow. i don't have pets, but do DOG WALKERS make $100k? Why the heck go to law school or med school to make that kind of money when you can just be a pooper scooper?

Christine, 52, makes $78000 as an aerobics instructor. A mild wow there as well, does that seen normal or a little big much for something lacking in eduction?

I saw that! I was outraged over that aerobics instructor. I teach aerobics and I get $15 per class. Even if I taught eight classes a day (which is lunacy, even for super-fit people) five days a week, by my calculations, that would earn me $31,200. evn when I was younger and in great shape, three classes day damn near killed me!

Even if a big city, where they might pay $30 a class, that's just $62,400. I cannot imagine that someone pays more than that to teach an aerobics class.

The only thing I can imagine is that she must own a gym and makes a great deal of her income off the memberships, and perhaps some sponsorships as well. And she might also do some personal training. No one can teach enough classes to make $78,000 by teaching alone.

Fun question, more awesomeness Captain Sully of the Wild Blue Yonder, or Captain Phillips of the Seven Seas?

In the face of certain death, Sully saved 155 people and countless others on the ground by making an emergency crash landing of his powerless aircraft in the Hudson River. Phillips under the threat of death from AK-47 armed pirates offered himself as a prisoner in exchange for the safety of his crew and his aid supply carrying ship then survived 5 days at sea as a hostage on a 24 foot lifeboat.

If you could have a beer with only one, which would it be?

The bigger question to me is why would an aerobics instructor or a dog walker ever admit to what they really make?

They could fill many of those flight instructor slots for minimum wage with guys just trying to log hours. I have 2 buddies doing that now trying to get enough hours to go commercial.

Cana,

Good luck to your buddies. The airlines have cut capacity and been pulling planes out of service over the last year, so a lot of flightcrew slots have disappeared.

major airline pilots start fairly low, i think right around 50k, but the veteran captains make well over 100k, plus they work only 80 hours a month for basically being bus drivers in the sky. but sully is a good example of why they get paid better than bus drivers.

Damn, that air traffic contoller guy is sweating his *** off in that photo.... he looks like he could crack at any second.
