Can't get mac to see TW/RR outgoing mail server

I got the incoming working fine on pop-server.austin.rr.com

But the outgoing, which is supposed to be smtp-server.austin.rr.com, won't connect. I know the username and password are right because I can receive emails, just can't send them.

TW/RR customer service is a ******* joke.

Anyone have any ideas?

Not sure what program you're using, but Time Warner requires password authentication for the outbound smtp-server. This is generally a checkbox in the outbound or advanced email settings.

here's a few examples. You don't need the SSL, just the authentication.
 
thanks. but it was actually the opposite. They do NOT look for authentication for the outbound server. Had to uncheck the box and it works fine.

Nightmare getting to someone who could help on the phone.

Glad it's working. I saw that in one of my searches but I was sure it was required. I have a half dozen pop accounts set up, so I may be thinking of a different one...
