Candace Parker not named to USA team

what a shocker. When healthy, she is one of the premier players and she has been healthy this past year.

Completely agree - I'm really curious to see who does make the team but I can't name a player that can play both the 4 and the 5 as effectively as Parker can. Considering the importance of versatility on a 12 player squad that can't add players if injuries occur, this decision is rather confusing unless something unknown to the public/writer has occurred such as Parker declining to participate.

Not sure about the reliability but, this is the Rio roster 'according to sources':

Lindsey Whalen Minnesota Lynx
Maya Moore Minnesota Lynx
Sylvia Fowles Minnesota Lynx
Seimone Augustus Minnesota Lynx
Sue Bird Seattle Storm
Breanna Stewart Seattle Storm
Diana Taurasi Phoenix Mercury
Brittney Griner Phoenix Mercury
Tamika Catchings Indiana Fever
Tina Charles New York Liberty
Angel McCoughtry Atlanta Dream
Elena Delle Donne Chicago Sky

Was hoping for more younger players. Not a fan of McCoughtry - dynamic scorer but too much hero ball.

Not a fan of seeing Sue on the team again. Just doesn't seem like she adds much. Parker would've been my choice between those two. Since the woman are so much better than their opponents in other countries, I dont think that "position" is all that relevant when considering that Parker can handle the ball just as well (if not better) than most guards

Effectively a farewell event for Bird, Whalen, Catchings, Augustus, Taurasi - they'll be 35+ by the 2020 games. That's why I thought they might include a younger PG (Diggins or Vandersloot) and bump either Bird or Whalen.

If I had to knock one off for Parker - I'd choose Fowles. Parker has more offensive range, can defend SF/PF/C and rebounds just as well.

Taurasi will likely play in the 2020 games. She will skip every other WNBA season if ircc. He overseas team pays her a million bucks to sit out so I doubt she will have a ton of wear and tear, even at 35.

This is very shocking. I definitely would have selected Parker over Stewie. Stewie will be a great player and no doubt an Olympian if she stays healthy but I just don't think she is a better player than Parker right now. However, I did notice the article stated it wasn't about selecting the best players but the players that played best together, this might be where Stewie's familiarity with UConn players factors in. It might not have even been between her and Stewart but that's just my opinion.

Haven't watched the WNBA consistently in years. Is Tamika Catchings still one of the best at her position? Used to love watching her play, but not sure where she ranks currently.

Honestly, the best players should be chosen (regardless of age). Let new players have their moments of glory if they have surpassed the veteran players (despite being former Olympians).

This team has good height, but I am a little concerned about defense at the guard position.
