#2 PG in Texas for 2013. Can't blame her for wanting to look around with the change in coaches. Style of play, fit, are all important to both the player and coach. Hopefully, she will return to her original commitment once she has a chance to look around.
yeah, doubt if signing a JUCO PG is the reason. Have to remember that Cassie will be a RS Junior in 2013. I think the change in coaches has a lot more to do it than any player signing.
I agree with BabHorn. In this article from 2010 Candice seemed to have a connection with Coach Hughey. Maybe she needs time to connect with the new coaching staff.
I have no doubt the coaching change has something to do with it too, but bringing in a point guard probably tipped the scales. I work with someone who has a daughter going through the college recruiting process. You would not believe how much time they spend analyzing where she'd immediately get to play. The concepts of good academics, good teammates and a coaching staff you like seems lost. Perhaps this insight into the process has colored my views. Even with limited overlap some people want to go where they think they'll find playing time from the beginning.
I undoubtedly expected this to happen if we didnt keep someone from the previous staff especially Ron. And hopefully thats something that can be corrected before we lose out on Jada Terry too. Because that would be a huge blow to our anticipated post depth in the future since 2013-2014 was the year we were really expecting to potentially be the B12 favorites and be in Nat'l title contention.
That's part of the recruiting "game". We've had decommits recently that re-committed (Nneka), and those that went elsewhere (Peyton Little).
I can't fault Candice for opening up her recruitment based on the coaching changes; luckily, that gives both parties a few months before November's early signing period to explore their options
Obviously, none of us knows exactly what transpired when Aston spoke with Terry and Adams after the coaching change. Terry did say that Aston didn't make her feel "wanted", or something to that effect; perhaps Aston is looking for something different in her post player recruits.
When they had both committed to Coach G last summer (I think), it was said that they wanted to continue playing in college together; so, that was a factor. Not sure if that meant other schools hadn't offered both of them, but they seemed to be glued at the hip.
Gradually, both began to fall in the in the recruiting rankings; I believe Terry was still regarded by most as the #1 recruit in Texas, but her stock was falling nationally.
Regardless, neither is coming to Texas. With Vanderzee being a recent commit, we'll see how the rest of our 2013 class turns out.
When a Coach is recruiting a player a lot of things go into evaluating a player. I don't think they were a good fit for what K.Aston was looking for.If C.Adams is going to NTexas. Aston made a good choice of judging talent.
