Cancun advice for bachelorette party

My bachelorette party is in July, and we want to go to a beach. Obviously I can't ask people to pay an arm and a leg, but we also don't want to go to Galveston. What is a good cheap place to go to a decent beach? Since it's a short trip, it needs to be fairly quick/easy to get there, and hopefully not too expensive. Any ideas??

Edit: we have pretty much decided on cancun... see below.

i don't know about houston, but aeromexico just started doing a $9.99 flight direct from austin to cancun. after taxes and fees i think it is about $100.

Check out Destin Florida.

From Austin it will take a day to drive there. But there are tons of condos, houses, etc. for rent that are very reasonable. 10X better than Corpus or Galveston.

My wife did one of those all-inclusive things in Mexico (Playa del Carmen) once, and she really liked it. I think it ended up being $600 total for airfare, food, drinks, and lodging for 3 nights (but I could be wrong). She also booked the trip just 3 weeks before she planned to go there, and the trip would have been even cheaper if she had booked it earlier. Seems like it'd be a good bachelorette destination.

Mexico can be pretty cheap as mentioned above. South Padre is pretty laid back in the summer. It's cheap, especially if you plan ahead on Southwest.

Just a correction on someone's earlier post....the airline from Austin that is doing the $9.99 (~100US) is Viva Aerobus, which starts service on May 1.

Went to Cancun for a bachelor party in August last year and we had an all inclusive trip for under $600 including airfare. I think the hotel was a 4 star hotel. There are many deals like this to be found in Cancun. The beaches took a hard hit after the tropical storms and hurricanes last year. So if that is an option, I would ask about the beaches before booking the trip.

Destin will have a lot more stuff to do if bad weather comes your way. And the restaurants are much better.

It looks like we are probably doing Cancun. Since that's decided, can anyone recommend good restaurants or things to do at night? Maybe slightly more low key/local flavor type of thing, we are not looking for girls in sombreros to blow whistles and give us tequila shooters at senor frogs.

The best meal that we had in Cancun was at Ruth's Chris. Yes, it is a chain and it is obviously not local but it was actually better than the one in Dallas.

I would highly reccomend flying into Cancun and going south to Playa del Carmen. Probably much more up your alley than Cancun. 5th Avenue is awesome. Great restaurants and bars.

The resort where you make your reservation should be able to also arrange transportation to/from Cancun. I'll be down there in June. Too bad I'll miss you're group.
