Can you buy food grade caffeine

When I was at UT in the late 80's the coffee alternative craze was just hitting. First......Jolt cola, then, my favorite, Water Joe. Water Joe was simple enough with just food grade caffeine mixed with triple filtered tap water.

Since water Joe is no longer made and no one distributes a similar product in my area, I'd like to make my own.

Any ideas on how to procure the active ingredient? Though its not illegal to posess or buy most places Ive seen online wont sell to individuals.

You might try going to a small coffee company and asking them if you can buy some. I'm talking about an operation that brings in the raw beans and does everything in house (roasting, decaffeinating,etc.). I took a tour of Texas Coffee Traders in Austin and they are one such company. Their caffeine gets sold to soft drink manufacturers.

thanks for the link, hobbes. I guess the are still in business in the north. I dont know if i'll mail order any, however, because I think paying 10 dollars shipping to send 20 bottles of water across the country is a little silly.

I'll try the coffee companies. If not, I may be back on red bull.
