Can you amplify a wireless signal?

I recently moved my office and am now much further away from the wireless router I share with my neighbor. Is there a way I can amplify it so that I can pick it up on my laptop? Thanks.

Sometimes flashing the drivers on the router gives it better range. Depends on the router.

There are antennas you can buy that plug into your network card. Just plug it in and position the antenna as close to the router as possible. Of course, you're limited by the length of the cord.

You could also buy a wireless access point and have it repeat the signal. More expensive than an antenna, but more likely to produce better results.

i think the easiest way is to just get an access point and stick it halfway between you and the router to act as a bridge.

I use a D-Link DWL-2100ap set up as a repeater to sort of extend the range of the router. D-Link also makes some other repeaters. If you have Linksys stuff, they make a access points that will act as range extender/repeaters (one I used in the past is the WAP11). Also, you can look into purchasing antennas for the router that are supposed to extend the range. I haven't ever tried any of these though so I am not sure how successful they are. My advice would be to go to the website for the brand of router you have and see what products they have available. (Their customer service and tech lines normally are very good at explaining your options) Then look around either online or at stores to find your best price to get what the product you need. Sometimes stores will have the better price if there are rebates available.
