Can we not boo this weekend?

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but in light of the tragedy that Wyoming went through this week, can we please not boo them when they come out on the field, or if they make a decent play or two?

I always feel pity for the students and others that just feel the need to boo whenever an opponent comes out of the visitor's locker room. Why bother in the first place?

And on top of that, Wyoming had a lot to deal with, including an away game after something so awful. Just don't boo.

This needs to be circulated among those freshly finished with puberty, the student section. I am sure that most are smart enough to know better this week (should be every week) but get 'em in a group and they don't think as well.

If they do boo we should be allowed to go Colorado on them and chunk batteries.

Instead of ever booing the other team why not concentrate on cheering for our team? That way we don't fall to the level of other teams and fans such as they do the Horns down sign instead of something for their team.

I wish this were required reading!!!!

I never understood booing the other team when they enter DKR, not even aggy. I also don't understand Texas Fight during their alma mater. As a matter of fact this week they should probably get a standing O when they enter the field. Hope the band does something nice and appropriate.

Don't boo Wyoming. I'd prefer we not boo any team. (I've boo'd the refs though. Sometimes they need to hear it.)

I hope this is picked up by the Daily Texan or somebody in admin to put out an email or an editorial. It's sad that it's even an issue or a fear to any level. Maybe the students will come to their senses even if just for this game. Games are not to act like ignorant classless people. This is especially true when a visiting team lost a team member with 3 other hurt, maybe one forever.

Be Longhorns, not jerks.

I also like the idea of a standing ovation of their team and maybe our band playing their song along with their band (is there enough time to do this?) to make it really loud and proud.

Edit: I sent a msg to a friend of mine in the LHB to see if he knows somebody who can say if they can or cannot do something for this.

I don't have time to boo anybody because I am too busy being a Longhorn which means cheering for my team. No time for them since they are not as important as the Longhorns.

So where do I send a complaint about the old people not cheering at all, acting like "it's a tennis match," and leaving in the 2nd quarter and never coming back? I'm sure it's everyone and not just a few, so I'll just generalize and accuse all of them.

I just e-mailed Dodds, Worley, and KJ about it. Hopefully they can at least relay a message to Mack about it before Saturday.

That was fast. Here's Kasey Johnson's reply:

"Thank you for your email. We actually already have a time set aside prior to kickoff for a moment of silence as well as an announcement read across the PA System asking all of the UT Community to keep Ruben Narcisse’s family and the entire University of Wyoming family in their thoughts.

The Longhorn Band will also play for Wyoming “Cowboy Joe”.

We understand what they are going through from our personal experiences in losing Cole.

Thank you for your caring spirit!

What RDGP said. We were treated like royalty in Laramie last year. If they didn't play the same days we do, I'd love to go to more of their games. That's a FUN place w a lot of REALLY welcoming, friendly people.

Please take good care of anyone wearing their gold and brown gear.

I won't be there but I hope our crowd cheers and applauds the **** out of that Wyoming team when they hit the field. It's still just a game, and these are kids.

I never understood the booing of the opposing team as they come on the field.

First and foremost, never, ever, 'boo' your own team. I think the only time 'booing' is appropriate is when an opposing player or coach is acting like a jackass... e.g. Stoops being Stoops or a flagrant personal foul (kellen heard), and sometimes an outrageously bad call by a ref.

I say applaud and respect is what I would expect but not forget that it is still a game and it must be played without sympathy.

I am not only glad but also proud of our A.D. and Band to learn they were already on this. I am not surprised though. I am sure Mack has offered his services to the coach and staff not just now but for the future.

From a return email I received from the editor of the Daily Texan:

"Hi,

I received a firing line along those lines from an alum today. It will be in tomorrow's paper (Thursday).

Lauren"

So the students will be put on notice.
