premature, yes, but why not? 8.5 games ahead of the Angels and As.

Only 5 games behind NY in the loss column.

And does it help in terms of matchups in the playoffs. Being a Rangers fan, I don't have a clue how they decide the playoff matchups.

I would think if the Rangers are a division winner and have the 2nd best record among division winners; they would not play NY.??
. somebody straighten me out on this. thanks

It's been a long time, but here's what I remember:

The wildcard cannot play the winner of its own division.

With that understood, they match the division winner with the best record against the division winner with the worst record, and pair the wild card with the other division winner, unless they are from the same division. (I don't know what they do if this is the case.)

Please, guys, correct me if I'm wrong. But do it gently, as I'm such a delicate ******* flower!

I think you're right... the basic rule is that two teams from the same division can't meet in the first round. Other than that, the best record plays the worst record in the first round, with the other two teams squaring off as well.

So the way this will work this season

... is that Boston will play Texas in the first round, then after eliminating the Rangers, will play the Yankees in the ALCS, then beat the Braves in the WS

I guess I will keep my eye on the White Sox, make sure the Rangers finish above the Sox, to have the 2nd division slot, after either the Yankees or Rays.

As long as the Rangers start off playing a team other than the Yankees, that's what I'm looking for.

Since TB is the Wildcard they will be the visitor. Thus, Rangers host TB; Yanks home to the White Sox.

Hook'em!!!
