Campus Carry

I understand where Fenves is coming from, however I would be more worried about sexual assaults, underage drinking/driving, and drugs in regards to safety of students than licensed conceal carry holders.

He can be concerned about all of those issues.
I didn't say he couldn't. I said "more." Sexual assaults are rampant at UT and other schools. And despite the anti-gun crowd's mouth-frothing desire to find examples, I haven't heard of a wave of conceal carry crimes/violations by license holders.

Define "rampant". The oft-quoted 1 in 5 statistic has been regularly debunked.

That's because they do not exist. The occurrence of violent crime by CCL holders, nationwide, is statistically zero. It is 6 times less than the same statistic for police officers.

Well, Texans are statistically much safer from violent crime than when I attended UT in the early 1980s. I owned firearms, but left them at my parents' home when I came to Austin. I had no wish for them on campus or where I lived in South Riverside. I'm sure there will be a few concealed-carry holders at UT, but probably less than 100 and most will carry because of worries over off-campus dangers on their way to and from class/employment.

I would remind you younger folks that it was students with deer rifles that kept Charles Whitman at bay in the early go. The cops had shown up with pistols and shotguns, which had no effect. Guns on campus are not automatically a bad thing.

Somehow cops in shorts do just not look intimidating enough. How is it this guy is in handcuffs, I think, but still has a knife on his belt? Is that just the sheath? Cuz it looks like I can see a knife handle sticking out.

As a journalism/english geek, I feel compelled to point out that there's nothing "alleged" about the photo. It's clearly an actual photo. And considering he's in handcuffs, I don't think he's an "alleged suspect" either. I think you can safely say that the photo is a photo, and the guy in handcuffs is a suspect.

It may still be alleged that this is the criminal, but he's undeniably a suspect.

It's more the molestache and swimcap.

Presumably the timing of the picture. I would imagine they'd want to cuff him first and then remove the knife holster, rather than trying to remove it while his hands are still free.

Back in 2012, Kendrex White made a bad 14m home video they called “Haitian Revolution” where White and some classmates reenacted the murder of whites by Haitian political figure Dutty Boukman.

Victims were 3 white males and one Asian male. No connections between the four.

Attacker looks like a black male.

Perhaps he was reenacting his home video. Maybe he thinks he's Toussaint L'Overture freeing the slaves of Haiti from those nasty Europeans.

Wonder what Fenves and his Leftist faculty, who are so deathly afraid of Campus Carry, will say about this?

Did this murdering scumbag make up a portion of the "critical mass" of minorities U.T. is so fond of promoting at the expense of more worthy candidates?

There's mixed reports about students with CCL being involved. I've seen one report that states that a student with CCL actually chased the attacker, but didn't fire for fear of hitting students.

This is why we are hearing little from the media about the motive for this cowardly attack. Another serial killer inspired by black lives matter. Time to charge the leaders of this hate group with hate crimes for inspiring yet another attack.

Austin PD has reportedly said that the attacker may be "mentally disturbed". I suppose they're trying to allay the fears of the student body that there's no ongoing threat to Greek societies (rumored) or white people, but his future defense lawyer will love that conclusion.

Why can't someone simply be "mentally disturbed"? I think Adam Lanza was mentally disturbed when he walk into Sandy Hook Elementary. The Columbine massacre was also carried out by some mentally disturbed teenagers. Heck, even the guy that tried to blow up the PP in Colorado Springs was mentally disturbed. Not everything has a political motive.

The problem is when the rhetoric of groups like BLM and anti-abortion activists inspire crazy people to do crazy things.

They could be a politically motivated mentally disturbed person. But yes I agree that everyone that commits those kind of crimes are very mentally disturbed.

Ted Bundy was mentally disturbed too. He'd go dig up his victim's bodies and have sex with them.

That didn't keep Florida from killing him.
