camping in South OR or North CA

I will be driving from Portland to Lake Taohoe over Labor Day and am looking for a place to camp somewhere in between. Looking for a campsite for tents or yurts.

I once made the drive from Lake Tahoe to Portland (more years ago than I would care to say), and along the way camped at Willow Creek CG in Modoc National Forest. It is located on highway 139, 14 miles south of Adin, CA. Nice spot, obscure and uncrowded.

North Ca!!! but right now there are a ton of fires in the area, so check before you fly.
