I thought i had seen a "checklist" on here but could not find a search for it.

I am looking for a checklist that someone has before they go camping.

What kind of camping? We have a travel trailer and have a checklist but I'm sure its quite different than tent camping or cabin camping.

You have to help us out a bit more than that. Will you be taking kids? Are you going somewhere with water, somewhere hot, will there be bugs? Are you allowed to have a fire and will you be using it to cook meals?

Seriously, "tent camping" could mean the summit of Everest or a weekend in the back yard with the kids.

Beer.
Pork and Beans - several cans
toilet paper
A tent.
matches
bourbon
fireworks

Just got back from camping this weekend at Guadalupe River State Park. Lantern (propane powered one that I have works great), chimney starter for charcoal grilling, lighter, lawn chairs (UT ones are preferable), sunscreen, tent, pad for under sleeping bag, sleeping bag, pillow, more coolers than you think you need (we had 1 for beer, 1 for food and 1 for extra ice).

Yes, it is a different list if you are car camping, where there is a walkup shower facility, like in many state parks, or primitive camping, where you pack in the tent, sleeping bag, etc, and there is no shower, or bathroom 50 yards away.
So which is it-do you require Sherpas to get to your campsite, or will a Toyota Hybrid back up to the site?

Sorry for the late reply, but for some reason I can only logon at home. We will be camping at Lake Mineral Wells on 6/20. I have a tent that fits in the back of my truck, no kids, restrooms available and showers. Hopefully, that is enough info. to get some good ideas.

Tent, make sure you have the tent "footprint," raincover, pegs, and a hammer to pound in the pegs, the tent poles, whatever else came with the tent
Sleeping bag
Sleeping mat
Pillow, maybe a sheet
Towel, soap, shampoo, etc, for shower, toilet paper, some places don't have any
Power bars for hiking
Water bottles for hiking
REI cool hiking dude clothes
Insect repellant, just in case
Cooking there? Camp stove, list and plan the meals, so take what you need in the way of plates, utensils, pots, food, cooler, ice, beverages
Camping light, battery powered tent light for reading or card playing or whatever, light that goes on your head, flashlites, batteries for all these things
Paper towels, hand wipes
Camera, batteries
Bear repellant spray
Minor first aid kit for car
Oh, yeah, we bought a battery powered folding tent fan, at Academy, I think, or Target might have them-if it is a hot Texas night, this can make the difference between enjoying the camping experience and sweating all night sleeplessly, and it was cheap. Has a two speeds, and a good light in it as well.

to add to accuratehorns list...

Tent with rain fly
Camera
Alcohol
Water
Fishing gear
Portable stove (with extra propane)
Lighter
Matches in plastic bag
Can opener
Bottle opener (for beer & wine)
Mess kit
Utensils
Cups
Rope - to rig tarp and as a clothes line
Tarp - rig for shade
Tool or pocketknife
Flashlight (pref a head light)
Coffee singles
Toilet seat covers (the gals will love this)
Hand sanitizer
Trash bags
Bug spray
Sunscreen
Chapstick
Plastic bags
Folding chairs
Rain gear?
Charcoal (easy light)
Mosquito candle
Table cloth
More water

A thought on the lanterns: the big super bright lanterns (like the old Coleman white gas lanterns) are usually way, way too bright. If you want your compound floodlit that's one thing, but depending on how close your neighbors are, they might be blinded (and angered) by same.

Don't forget the power convertor for the car, so you can plug in your laptop to check HornFans, and a TV and VCR to play your SpongeBob SquarePants tape collection. Don't want to get bored out in the wilderness.
