Well today is the first day for Advanced camp to start. Could some of the eyes and ears there fill us in? Are there lots of players with talent there? Also, any visual on the new Longhorns at camp?

Give us the scoop Please!

I really don't want to post names of campers until I check that it's okay with Coach G.

I will say that five of the six frosh were there. Only one missing was McKoy from Canada who is still in high school until next week. Chassidy hit something like 17 or 18 FTs in a row in a demo. Didn't miss a single FT.

Coach Ronald Hughey was there. Very friendly and personable person.

At least three major Texas recruiting targets were there. Hope it's a decision making weekend for them. Also, some HS freshmen looked good. Lots of frosh and sophs at the camp. Players from pretty much all over Texas and from various states are in camp.

Four of the five returning lettermen were present. Cokie looks like she has really been working hard. Like Ashley changed her body last year, Cokie seems to be doing the same this year. Good news for Horn fans.

Earnie, Erika, Edwina Brown, Carla Cortijo are some of the graduated players working at camp. I'm sure I missed some since I forgot to take a pen to write down things.

I thought they were going to scrimmage after camp was over but I seemed to have missed it. Maybe I was on the wrong court. That was the only downer of the day. I was looking forward to seeing the freshmen on the court.

Hope some of you can make it tomorrow and/or Monday.

Since Carla is there by the invitation of the coaching staff, especially Coach G, I seriously doubt that there is anything to the K. Bone thing, whatever it may be.

Hey Badhorn don't let the negative of others keep you from typing what your seeing at this years camp. I'm sure the majority wants you to continue reporting so ignore the one bad apple so to speak. Thanks so much and bring on chapter two plez

too late to really give a report tonight. I'll post a pretty long one sometime tomorrow afternoon after I get home and write it up.

I did get to see the scrimmage tonight, so that was good.

Well, it was an awesome camp. Definitely some young players that will bear watching. By young, I mean 9th graders. Two players I did recognize from internet pics were Peyton Little and Ronnisha Major. Of course, Brady Sanders was there.

Peyton is everything they say. I dug this up last night. The girl can shoot with range close to or rivaling Andrea Riley’s. She passes very well, has excellent court vision, very good ballhandler, and a good defender with good anticipation. More importantly, imo, is that she is not afraid to involve her teammates, whether they are her teammates in today’s allstar game or others not quite as talented. Peyton will find and get the ball to the open player. I really hope that she comes to Texas although I can see why Tech fans think they have the inside track with Peyton’s family having such a big Tech background.

Ronnisha is very strong. She’s an excellent rebounder and has some nice moves around the basket. She does have very good ball handling skills, better than I had anticipated, considering I thought that she was a post. She could easily rotate between PF and SF. Her shots weren’t falling in the allstar game from outside but she had good form on them. She’s definitely someone that can get playing time next season if she comes to Texas.

Brady was just much more stronger and confident in this camp. She was more verbal than last year although maybe I was just paying more attention this time around. She has a very nice mid range jumper and can hit the 3. Very good driving to the basket and finishing. Another excellent passer. Awesome verbal last season for the Horns! Can’t wait to see her in burnt orange.

The veterans that I saw looked in very good shape. Seems like they have been working hard. I talked a bit to AT and she said that they are lifting weights and doing conditioning work. Usually pickup games are at the Cooley. They don’t have games at Gregory because it’s too hard to get a court. To my way of thinking, you got your own practice court so why bother waiting in line for a court? Watched Chassidy shoot. She can shoot. She looks ready to start the season. She will be wearing her old HS number at UT--#24. From what I heard, the frosh are going to be pushing the vets hard for minutes.

There was quite a crowd of players at the camp. Most of the players that I noticed seemed rather young, though. Two tall wing/ post players turned out to be twins that saw the Horns play in Florida and liked their style. Guess all those road trips pay off. They are young, around 14 and usually play guard rather than inside. I saw a player that reminded me a bit of Peyton and found out that she was a ninth grader from here in Austin. I am going follow her and her teammate to see how they do as both looked good in the practices.

The coaches seemed really pleased with the turnout and with the talent of the players. Hopefully, this will turn out to be as fruitful a camp as last year’s when both Brady and Chassidy ended up verbaling shortly after camp.

Did you happen to notice a guard about 5'9 or 5'10 from Kansas? I have a buddy who coaches up in KC and he raves about her. He says she is very athletic and a real team player who makes the players around her better. I think she will be a junior next year. Any feedback?

Thanks for the camp updates! Great information!

I must have missed something though - why does someone believe Carla should not be maintaining her relationship with the program?? What did I miss???

dobfreak, sounds like Jordan Baldwin to me. She was very noticable with her energy. Very good player who is likely to have a choice of where she wants to go.
