Camp sites near Concan

El Mariachi

I'm contemplating a trip to the Frio in the next few weeks to take advantage of the favorable water conditions. Since finding a cabin is unlikely, I'm wondering if anyone has good recommendations for campsites where we could locate a tent or two. Garner State Park is not desirable (or available, for that matter).

I've stayed at Neals, and other smaller places closer to Rio Frio, so I know the area fairly well. I've never camped, though, so any insight on nice locations would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The only places I've camped are Garner and Chalk Bluff. Chalk Bluff is pretty cool.

We went camping at Garner in early June. I am not going there until I have kids. We are in our 30s and yet the camp rangers were nazis about us drinking our beer. We were just drinking it at our campsite.

Actually, if you want to get adventurous, you can camp out anywhere along the rivers. We camped out once at the Nueces near the Uvalde/Zavala county line.

But if you were to do that, I'd recommend bringing a handgun.

Thanks, Bookman. We're going to try Andy's on River Road in Concan. Chalk Bluff looks pretty good, but we're set on being close to the Frio. This is really more of a float trip than camping trip - I don't expect our experience at Andy's to be anything akin to true camping other than the fact I'll be sleeping in a tent.
