Camcorders - What's good?

Is the short video time (30 minutes) worth splurging on a DVD recorder?

Sony vs. Canon
1 Chip vs. 3 Chip

What do I need?

i personally think sony's lower-end cameras are better than canon, but if you get into the more expensive models, canon's high end cameras are outstanding. what all do you want to do with your camera? obviously 'record stuff', but how important is it to you to be able to use digital editing and that kind of stuff?

it would probably be more cost effective for you to just buy a dvd burner for your computer and then put the movies onto dvds yourself.

We will be doing some editing (Little Macanudo is due 9/28.) Plus we'll use it to take stills as well.
