Camcorder Help

I have the Sony DCR-PC109 and I can't figure out how to get the video from the tape onto my computer. The instructions give all this info on how to do stuff to the video once it's on your computer, but it never freaking tells how to get it there in the first place. I hooked everything up correctly. It has a USB connection. Does anyone know how the hell to transfer the video? That's the whole reason I got this damn thing in the first place. Damn, I am getting pissed again just writing this post!! I about had an aneurism last night fooling around with this thing.

It can be frustrating to get these things to work sometimes. I hate it when you muck around with it for about an hour or so, and all of a sudden it starts working, and you have no idea which of the 900 things you tried made it start to work.

I have always used the IEEE 1394 interface, which your camera has. It automatically detects when I connect the camera, and put it in "play" mode, then XP asks me what application I want to use to import the video. I presume you've installed all the software that came with your unit and rebooted your computer, if so, your USB should automatically recognize that you've attached a new device. Does XP (I presume you're running XP) detect that you have attached a new device? If not, then find the latest drivers for your device and install those.

While I use IEEE 1394, I guess USB should work, just much slower.

I'm having the same freaking problem. I just bought the Sony DCR-HC30. It came with "Sony picture package" software, but I can't figure the **** out. I just want to get the **** from the tape to my computer to either edit it, or save it to a CD for backup. Any suggestions.
