I think there are a couple of orthopedists on here...

Subluxated shoulder. It popped back into place about a minute after it came out.

MRI reveals circumferential tear of the labrum (SLAP IX???) and a Hills Sachs impact fracture.

I went to an orthopedist that is known to be conservative and he says it will never heal without arthroscopic surgery. Is there any chance he's wrong? Is it even worth seeking a second opinion?

The injury was 2 weeks ago and I have mild pain with certain movements, but not that bad anymore. I can work and do my everyday stuff but I cannot throw a ball, swim, etc...

If I get the surgery it sounds like it'll put me out of work for an extended amount of time during the rehab, which is not ideal at all for my bank account. Does something like this ever get better with physical therapy alone?

You can try and rehab it, esp if there is no rotator cuff tear, but most likely it's gonna keep coming out, or at least slide around. The labrum (the L in SLAP) deepens the socket of the shoulder joint, so without it, even with strong r.c. muscles you are going to get increased wear and tear on the cartilage which means trouble down the road.

No AFLAC?

I have some LTD that gives me 55% of my pay tax-free. I can make it work, but I'm just looking to see what the options are.

Thanks for the info, you're exactly who I was looking for.

If you're in Austin, go see Frosty Moore (he's on the far R).

Frosty's good. He reattached a ruptured biceps tendon for me 14 years ago and I've had no problems.

John Pearce (Austin Bone and Joint) is another excellent Ortho. He did a complete shoulder replacement for me after a motorcycle accident last year. No probs.

Thanks guys, I'm actually seeing another doctor in that same group or at the same address anyway. His name is Bradley Adams. He's a D.O.

I was looking for someone who would not push surgery unless it absolutely has to be done. This guy was the second opinion for a friend of mine and told him he did not need surgery after the first doc said he did. My wife has also worked on a few legal cases where he was the surgeon and he has a reputation for being conservative.
