Call of Duty: World at War

Has anybody started playing this? I got it the day it came out. It has such a different feel than COD4 yet feels eerily familiar (controls are the same, etc). I think I like COD4 better, but the game, graphics, maps, gameplay are pretty impressive on COD:WAW.

There seems to be more spawnings of the other team at my immediate flank though. I die alot more playing this game Instead of a chopper at 7 kills, the other team releases dogs that come after you. Geez, it is really freaky trying to stave off those damn things! All in allI think it is a great game, but doesn't match COD4 in its greatness.

Picked it up the day it came out. Actually, the day before at 5 p.m. at Gamestop.

Ultimately, I am disappointed. The gameplay is not as good as COD 4. I spent the past week playing it, and I'm up to level 37. I just can't talk myself into continuing it. There are 4 of us in a clan, and we've pretty much gone back to COD 4.

The reasons are:
1. Spawn locations suck. I kill a guy, and he re-spawns 6 feet away from me to return the favor.

2. Ginormous maps. People are just running around clueless right now trying to figure out the maps. The one corn field with the wooden covered bridge and 4 tanks come to mind.

3. Too much crap on the map. I can't go 5 feet without running into debris, barrels, bricks, 2x4's, sandbags, etc... and coming to a complete stop. Stoccato (sp?) movements.

4. Everyone looks the same. Bad guys and good guys are hardly indistinguishable. I can't tell you how many times an opponent has walked right up to me, and not fired his weapon at me, or slashed me with a knife. I've done the same thing.

5. Player representations are poor, at best. God awful at worst

6. Weapons suck. The MP-40 seems to be the weapon of choice for everyone right now. And with good reason. It's the most powerful weapon right now. Amazing that it can shoot accurately, and with as much power as the game is currently allowing it. The M1 sucks, it says it's accurate, but it ain't. Too many single shot rifles, not enough MGs.

7. No really good sniper maps. Too big, and the maps seem to foster too much running around.

8. Spawn sites....warrants mentioning again. I hate base raping, or spawn jumping, but show some consistency. I don't like re-spawning in a group of baddies, and I don't like a guy re-spawning right next to me.

9. I've been shot in the back more times in one week of playing this game, than I have in one year of playing COD 4.

10. Artillery sucks. It takes too long for it to come in after I call it in.

11. Dogs are ruthless. They even know how to climb up a f'ing ladder. Amazing. I was standing on a wall, and Cujo jumped up and killed me.

12. I like the tanks.

13. Punks wearing Juggernaut. I think the Juggernaut perk keeps you from tripping on your Tampax string in addition to giving you extra life. The guns suck as it is, they don't do enough damage.

14. I like the revive feature. Cool.

15. Springfield Rifle, while cool, has been overcome by the game structure.

I'm back to COD 4. I'll wait on Infinity Ward to release COD 6 next year.

Any other good Multiplayer Shooters on the market?

DeepEastTexas...very good assessment. I share the same sentiment on the respawn points. I've been killed so often from behind it ain't funny. I get to where I just run backwards. I do find myself thinking I'm gonna die not because someone coming at me will kill me, but rather, someone will spawn behind me or to my immediate right/left and whack me with their knife.

Those stupid dogs are ruthless. One bite and you die. What the hell is that?

I like the refreshing change from COD4, having played it for the last year, but I did the same thing and found myself yearning for more COD4. I wish they'd bust out some new COD4 maps to placate me until COD6 comes out.

World at War is nothing more than a skin/map pack for cod4 which seems a bit weak to me. Campaign was fun but I bet 99% of those who bought the game did so for the multiplayer. The only other saving grace is the zombie mode which is alot of fun. Also, why the hell is there no split-screen multiplayer in either cod4 or WaW?

One other thing I forgot about. In my industry (aerospace) we call it simultaneity (sp?). Simultaneous with the "ity". Submitting your command (fire weapon/ slash knife/ jump / etc..) and gauging how fast the program responds to your command. It should be near instantaneous.

I unload half a clip from the MP-40 on a guy, he turns and knifes me, and in the kill cam it doesn't even show my guy discharging his weapon. GTFO!!! Bad simultaneity. I should at least get one of my 8 rounds off before the knife hits me. The MF'er should be dead from my ammo hitting him in the chest anyways. Running through a hail of gunfire to stab me isn't much fun for me.

COD 4 had these issues to a MUCH lesser extent.

I always chalk that up to the other guy having a faster internet connection. It's probably true in my case at least because I've got a slow one.

Sticking with COD 4 is a good call.

I mentioned it earlier, but I'll say it again. People who use Juggernaut suck. It seems to be epidemic in this new game.

I've never used Juggernaut and always opt for stopping power, and I do agree about the over use of it. Still playing about 50-50 between COD4 and CODWaW. I do like the freshness of the maps, especially when I've played COD4 so much that I almost got bored with it.

Aside from not dying from the normal amount of ammunition thrown at an opponent, Juggernaut apparently allows for a trooper to take a f'ing shell from the main cannon of a tank at point blank range without so much as blinking. This was the problem I had last night. We were playing TD, 6 on 6, and 4 of the guys from the other team were wearing Juggernaut. Get real.

It's way too powerful, moreso than COD 4. I run out of clips for my Type 100, and STG-44 from trying to kill these punks. The amount of ammo it takes is brutal.

Also, last night, a f'ing dog ran up the side of the house and through a window to kill me. There was only one way in, the staircase, and I was covering it because I saw a guy follow me into the house. All of a sudden, a dog kills me, and from the killcam, it came through the f'ing window. Unreal.

Anyone else having problem staying connected to the servers? I know I've got crappy DSL (best I can do living where I do) and had a few matchmaking issues on CoD4 & NCAA Football, but know it seems like I the booted all the way pretty much anytime someone sneezes.

Maybe my router is finally dying? But it seems more like their servers have gotten more touchy. Everytime I'm in a game and there is a "Connection Interrupted" message, the screen kicks to the lobby and says "migrating host" and then BAM! I'm totally out and have to log back in...very strange.

Any thoughts? I'm on PS3 BTW...but that's never been an issue before this game.

I play hardcore TDM to lower the effect of the juggerheads.

not too many bounce issues... but have been killed by dogs through walls and other objects before... the tank view should be fixed to where you actually see what you'd see while driving rather than a big 3rd person 360 degree view...

spawning can be brutal sometimes... notably harsh on the smaller maps.

Anyone know if there are any map pack releases planned for COD5?
