Cousins hasn't signed yet and Wall wasn't even committed to Memphis, so as long as Kentucky has room, he can get at least two of them to follow him if they want to. Henry may be out of luck though because I wouldnt be shocked to see Memphis not release him to UK.
If UK doesn't have two open ships, I would be SHOCKED if Cal didn't "make room" for guys like wall and cousins. I'd do some math and figure out the ship situation but UK's ridiculous amount of walk-ons make it tough. They have 19 guys listed on their roster, only one of whom is a senior. Patterson MIGHT go pro. I would guess Meeks will come back for sure now. They have signed 2 "elite" level recruits already plus GJ Vilarino. Maybe someone with more knowledge of UK basketball can break down their scholarship situation better.
I'm certainly no UK recruiting expert (or any sort of recruiting expert whatsoever), but I'm wondering if Cousins will go to Kentucky with Daniel Orton already signed. Both are Top 3-5 post players in this class. If Patterson stays, that's a pretty crowded frontline. I'm sure Calipari could convince John Wall to attend UK, however.
If I was Cousins, I'd actually wait and see who Memphis brings in. Henry is already signed and they should still be pretty good next year. Cousins isn't going to be around for more than a year anyway. I wouldn't jump ship right away. I'd leave it open, as he is not required to sign an LOI, for a bit longer.
Regarding Memphis and Xavier Henry, this is not the same situation as Sampson and OU. Calipari isn't leaving with NCAA violations. Ultimately, OU released Scottie Reynolds and Damion James, but I'm not sure if Memphis would do the same for Henry. Calipari and playing with his brother, C.J., were the main reasons why he chose Memphis over KU in the first place. Not sure what he'd be thinking if/when Calipari leaves. Kansas will probably get Lance Stephenson, who is a comparable talent, so I don't think KU would be a possibility, even if Memphis releases him.
Of course, I have not read anywhere that this is a done deal. It's being reported as possible, but all of this discussion would be pointless if Calipari turns UK down.
Didn't take long for the first person to come out claiming there is an addenda to the LOI allowing the recruit to leave. The Link
You know, what is the point of making that statement other than to make any other school think they are going to have to deal with a family of liars if the school holding the LOI lets the recruit out of it?
Man, I hope Kentucky goes on probation soon. All I keep hearing is how great of a recruiter Calipari is and how he is going to take Kentucky to the top. They say they fired Gilespi not because of wins and losses but because he wasn't a good fit for the program. Then they hire the scum that is Calipari. I wish someone would have the nuts to say the true reasons why Calipari has been successful at Memphis: I guess if there is no investigation then everything must be okay.
Henry has a clause in his scholarship that lets him out, so he's absolutely gone. He'll probably end up at KU, which is why Stephenson is delaying now, he wants to be the guy (or, at least, start) wherever he goes. That's no certainty with Taylor, Collins, and possibly Henry. IDK where Cousins goes, maybe Bama with Anthony Grant...
Seems Wall is Duke-bound, which is depressing. I love the guy's game and it doesn't fit with the minimally talented Duke system nowadays. Sad to see him waste his talent in such a pathetic offensive system that really hurts the NBA game.
There are no LOI clauses. It's is a standardized document that cannot be changed. It specifically states that it is between the player and school and the coach leaving has no effect on it. It's possible that Henry had a handshake agreement with Memphis that they would release him if Calipari left or he has a separate agreement with the school on the matter. I have no idea if such a document would supersede the LOI or is even permitted by the NCAA. What I do know is that he does not have a clause in his LOI releasing him if Calipari leaves.
