Cairo

I spent about 10 days last year in Cairo and Sharm el Sheikh and absolutely loved it. I stayed at the Four Seasons Nile River, which has awesome views over the Nile and a great pool. I was in Cairo about 3 days and did the pyramids/Sphinx, the Khan and tours of the Citadel and other mosques. My only complaint was the food made me sick, but it generally does that to most Westerners. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I'm staying at the Four Seasons as well, so it's good to hear that it gets a thumbs up from you.

What in the hell do Egyptians eat? I've heard the food is sketchy, but I have no idea what to look for. I have a fairly cast iron stomach and I always like checking out street venders, but I gather that's a no-no in Cairo.

Definitely stay away from the street vendors. I've got a strong stomach too, but the issue is more that your body hasn't built up the immunity to the bacteria in the food over there. It's easy to just walk into any pharmacy and get some medication OTC that helps.

The food is generally Middle Eastern or mezes, and the Four Seasons has a few good restuarants. We also ate at the Khan Khalili restuarant, which is run by the Oberoi chain, in the Bazaar. The food was pretty good.
