I like how every source talks about how there's no need in the bullpen for him, and that's the reason for the change. Not the fact that there's a severe need for starters and they're willing to accept a trained goat or that kid from Little Big League as the 4th and 5th guys.
This is why the Rangers will continually be a failed organization. If CJ Wilson can earn a starting slot in the rotation, that means the Rangers' pitching sucks. IMHO this dude should have been the 2nd pitcher they sent packing, right after Millwood. Both are worthless.
The Rangers have been a failed organization, but I think the team is on the right track. We didn't see prospects traded for fading veterans this off season. As far as bad pitchers with promise becoming good pitchers, Wilson sure wouldn't be the first ever to make that transition.
I'll be the first to admit that he has shown flashes throughout the years. But I would also think that Rangers fans would be the first to admit that he's due for some collapse-type games.
CJ came up through the minors as a starter and never lost that mentality. He has never approached the game properly from a late innings perspective - you have no room for error so throw strikes. As a starter, you can be cute and try and paint corners and such, so from that perspective I think this is a great move. Wilson has great stuff and we needed a lefty in the rotation.
