buying new thermostats

Any brands to avoid. I've seen a bad review on a Hunter, that's the only one I've seen a bad review on.

any others?

I bought a Rite-Temp (backlit touchscreen, 7-day schedule, remote control, etc.) at Home Depot and have been pretty happy with it. Cost about $80, compared to $100 for an equivalent Honeywell. Connecting my Aquatherm heater to it was a little weird, but calling their support line helped me through it.

If I had to do it again, I would buy the next model down (w/o touchscreen or remote) but I have no complaints about the brand.

I like my programable-- worth the extra money-- time zones-- cool during night --warmer during day--nice features

I never understood the programmable thermostat...I mean, it's it that hard to adjust it when you walk out the door or get home? Is that 10 minutes of less comfort when you get home worth it?

I never understood it either, till I got one.
One less thing to have to worry about once it's set up, you're good...

interesting. I ended up buying non-programmable thermostats from Lowe's. They are Honeywell, digital, look nice. cost $50 bucks each. Happy with the change. We have a two zone unit, so programmable is problematic.

Electric bill will still be high. Need an energy audit, in North Texas, north of metroplex.

Any ideas appreciated.
