Buying from Carmax

We found a good car at a decent price at Carmax but have heard rumblings about people having bad experiences with this place.

Has anybody here bought a car from them?

I was seriously looking at a Sequioa from CarMax until I discovered that they wanted about $750 less then what I could have paid for a new one with 21,000 fewer miles. I walked.

I did about 7 years ago when they first came to Texas...And would again.

They're not just a "place," they're a chain. So they have to stand behind what they sell.

The only CarMax rumblings I've ever heard from anyone have been over the fixed price or a lack of product knowledge on behalf of the salespeople.

I bought from Carmax about 18months ago. Actually, as a car buying experience it was above average. They didn't have the keypad combination to unlock the door, but said they would reimburse us for what the dealer charged to determine it, and they did.

They are not a bad place to buy from not great either but DO NOT use their financing use your own. Brother bought there and had to go out of country and wife forgot to send in a payment making it like 24 days late but at the start of 12 days late they called his house everyday three times a day looking for a payment that was not even 30 days late yet.

It's a great place to buy a used car if you want to pay too much for it.

my wife and I just bought a car from Carmax last month

it was a 2004 Hyundai with only 7000 miles on it. Perfect condition and great price

The salesman was VERY nice and there was basically no pressure at all. We were in and out within about 2 hours with the car to drive home

at this point...would buy from there again in a second

Echo earlier poster - it's not bad as long as you price-shop elsewhere first to make sure you're getting a good deal, and make sure you go outside for your financing. I bought my last car from them five years ago and financed through my credit union, and it was a positive experience all the way around.
