Does anyone have an recent experience in buying a smoker in/around Dallas they can share with me? I want something that will last a while that can stay in my backyard. Good brisket is hard to come by around here unless you are smoking it yourself...
How much time to you have to spend cooking? IE - On one extreme = you can watch a fire all night long or on the other = you want to set it and forget it.
There is a store called the grill doctor at Beltline and Coit NW corner next to the hardware store. They have all kinds of grills, smokers, and accessories. They might be able to tell you exactly what you're looking for.
Les made a good recommendation, I purchased my first smoker at the Grill Dr. I have a Southern Style, uprite smoker, its a good choice for first timers and cooks a little faster than the off-sets..
Also, check out this thread on the Texas BBQ Forum - it is a list of the smoker maunfactures with web site links... The Link
i ended up getting a pretty basic one at academy for about 150. im really happy with it. cook all the time on it too. i need to do some spot welding on it to clean up some of the leaks, but it serves its purpose.
