Butler-Pitt Finish

Crazy, crazy finish. Never seen a game end that way before.

If things are tight late versus Arizona tomorrow, I sure hope our boys are smarter than the Pittsburgh and Butler players who fouled with less than 1.5 seconds left.

3.2 seconds left and Butler up 1. Butler fouls 45 feet away with 1.something and Pitt makes 1 of 2. On the miss, the Butler center gets the ball and is fouled from behind with .8. He makes the first to go up 1 and misses the 2nd and Butler wins the game they should have won all along. Wow, feel bad for both sides.

Whether the blame belongs more to Jamie Dixon or the player for fouling Howard 92 feet from where he needed to get ball I can't say. Off hand I can't remember a more boneheaded play. And I've seen more contact not called on both fouls especially the one on Howard. I've seen it a lot. As in hundreds of times.

I actually think the decision to leave the players on the line was okay. If he misses, there is a chance of an offensive rebound and put-back. Obviously the chance is small, but still, it's a chance.

Someone on CBS also pointed out that the player is used to shooting with his guys on the line. so you wouldn't want to disrupt his routine.

This would be true, unless he is the designated technical foul shooter.

definitely blame the player, not the coach. And the view from above the backboard, it was absolutely a foul.

this is Pitt we're talking about correct? The guy some of us think is similar to Barnes in great recruiting but a little suspect of in terms of during game strategy.

If we step back, do we think he actually thought through all of those scenarios? I have serious doubts. I think he just let it go, because that is probably what he does.

remember Pitt couldn't even get off a shot in their last offensive possession. This guy is not a deep Xs and Os planner.

Now the other guy, Stevens, I'm no expert, but the experts say that last play he drew up, he supposedly faked to his go to guys and intended for that guy to make that layup, totally caught Pitt off guard.

Mack went from hero to goat in those 2 seconds. There was no reason to body him up unless you're that scared of him making a 50-foot three pointer.
