Burning Tivo to DVD

I just purchased a new computer with a DVD burner. I have some games on Tivo that I would like to make into a DVD.

Anyone have experience with this? I'm pretty new at this and don't really know what it would take to make this happen. Any help is greatly appreciated!

At the present moment....you'll have to visit a TIVO forum or search on the net and figure out how to hack your series 2 TIVO and set up a network btw your pc and tivo.

However, I thought in a newsletter I received from TIVO, that soon they will roll out a feature where you can transfer your shows to your pc for burning.

If you haven't already modified your Tivo for extracting recordings directly to your PC, then it is too late for those recordings. However, you can still transfer those recordings to a DV camera or A/V capture card on your computer using the outputs of your Tivo. The benefit of modifying your Tivo for extracting directly to your computer is that you will not lose any quality from the recordings.

TiVo-to-Go is coming. Early in the year, they said that by this fall it would be a go. Still waiting...

what about digital time warner cable boxes? they have an option record to VCR, but has anyone tried recording it to a laptop?

Check google for "tivo & directivo hacking" for some good resources. Also, you will want to be relatively comfortable with basic computer repair processes such as plugging in new hard drives. The procedures aren't too bad now that folks have made boot CDs, as long as you know how to open up your computer and put in hard drives.

I definitely recommend going with a capture card for your PC. I got a Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250 which has video in. That allows me to capture MPEG2 from any device with a video out jack (VHS camcorders, VCRs, Tivos, etc.)

Once I have the MPEG2s I edit them with Pinnacle Studio 9 and burn them with TMPEnc DVD Author.

The thing that's nice about the PVR-250 is that it comes with software that enables to behave just like a tivo. I've used it this year to record and burn DVDs for every UT football game.

go check out the forums on tivocommunity.com almost any question is answered in there regarding tivo.

MeaHorn,

Do I need to buy Pinnacle Studio 9 and the TMPEnc DVD Author?

Does your monitor matter when you are watching TV on your pc.....basically will any monitor work?

Thanks

longhorn_nation,

Yes Pinnacle Studio 9 is commercial software. I think it runs between $50 and $99. You can use it to do all your editing and DVD burning.

I think TPMGEnc Dvd Author is around $50... You don't need both programs, I just like the simplicity of making the DVDs with DVD Author. Pinnacle 9 does a fine job though, so you might like that better.

Oh, and your monitor has much better resolution than any standard television, so don't worry about that.
