Building a Computer Question

I know how to do it all, but I dont feel like researching too heavily into it this time around.

I need a graphics card that will run any game out there smoothly.

I want a soundcard that is as cheap as you can get without hampering game performance.

PC for games, My apple is for everything else because it works.

Probably two of the best vid cards out right now are the GeForce 6800GT and the ATI X800 XL. I don't know what your price range is though.

As far as sound cards the CREATIVE Soundblaster Audigy Gamer should be more than what you're looking for. It goes for around $100. Not sure about any that are a lot cheaper, but the regular CREATIVE sound blaster audigy should work fine as well, and I think it's around $25 or so cheaper than the GAMER card.

if you can afford it, get a 6800 Ultra and that's the best one out there hands down.

if you've got a big budget, get 2 Ultras and SLI them.

sound card really doesnt matter that much, imo. just buy a mobo with on board sound so you dont have to sacrifice a pci slot for it.

like the previous poster said, most high end mobos have 5.1CH capable audio out. Unless you need something specific (turn table or connecting a keyboard) a sound card would seem to be a waste of money and real estate inside the box.

a 6600GT will play any game out there for <200 bucks. It won't be at the uber highest settings, but it'll play them fine.

if he's serious about gaming though...he needs to get a snd card and not rely on onboard snd, not so much for quality but cpu usage for the snd and its effect on frame rates.
