Buffalo River in Arkansas

Has anyone ever floated or canoed down the Buffalo River in Arkansas? I was thinking about planning a trip with some buddies, but I read somewhere that the high floating season is May-June. Do we have to wait until next spring. Advise would help.

Now that being said bring on the Deliverance posts. My buddies have already agreed that I'm the one who gets to grow the porn-stach, wear a sleaveless vest and carry the bow and arrow.

There's plenty of info online but I went a long time ago in late summer or early fall. We did a one day canoe that was fun but there wasn't much in the way of rapids if that's what you are after. The scenery is great.

My dad went canoeing there for a week some 35 years ago and said that it is the prettiest country he has EVER seen.

I want to go, maybe next spring I can get a camping trip together.

How long is the drive from Austin? 18hours?

I'd suggest late September, October or even November. Fall folliage is incredible but like the previous poster said, make sure there is good flow.

If you have to go in the summer, you might try the adjacent Kings River which is a beautiful stream too.
