Buenos Aires (NON-honeymoon) suggestions

I'm leaving for Buenos Aires in 9 days to study Spanish for about 2 months. (Yes, I just got back from Ireland, but I already know English, so I didn't take any classes while I was there.)I'm planning on starting off doing a homestay with a family while taking classes to get in as much practice as possible, but I may vear off to living in an apartment for a few weeks or more during the second half of my trip. Also, I'm considering trips Mendoza and/or Salta. I have friends (the Ireland wedding couple as well as the Best Man at that wedding) who are investors in a winery in Mendoza. It has been suggested to me to take a visit. And then the wife of an acquaintance is from Salta and after a little research, that looks like a great town to visit, especially during the month of April.

Basically, it seems like people have been talking up Palermo
, Palermo Viejo
, and Recoleta
as the places to stay. **
I'm wondering if I should set up a language school and homestay before I go down there, or if I should wait until I get there to make sure that my school is in the part of town that I want to live in.**

Any info regarding that question or any other Buenos Aires info would be greatly appreciated. Most of the stuff in the past few months has been geared towards couples taking luxury vacations. I'm more interested in a single guy learning Spanish and getting the most out of the culture & nightlife of B.A. and other parts of Argentina.

Gracias

I'm not sure of the name of it but the club that is right on the harbor that looks like a smaller Sydney Opera House is not a bad place to hang out. Like six clubs in one and F'n huge. Talent everywhere.

...then definitely hang out in Palermo Viejo - it has more of a neighborhood feel but is full of bars, restaurants, etc. It has a thriving scene. Do you already have a place to stay?

Another worthwhile side trip is Bariloche. I've also heard/read great things about El Calafate and Ushuaia.

There are a few B&Bs in Palermo Soho that you could probably hit up for $30 - $50 /day if you need something while you look for a place.

Just get a place for a week in one of the Palermo's and then decide where you want to live for longer. There are tons of language schools in BA- most not accredited so make sure if you need credits.
Check out the California Burrito Company shop there in BA- its the new ExPat place and its amazing how burritos are going over in BA.
If you want to head to Calafate or South, you better go when you get there because come May- its really cold down there.
Iguazu is always a cool backpacker place too as it is a crossroads of travelers.

Have fun, enjoy your time down there and say hi to Chavez for me.
