Buechele (4-0) v. Green Wave

SMU sacks Tulane's freshman QB on third and long to force a punt, but SMU's returner muffs the punt, and Tulane will start in SMU territory. Tulane picks up a first down to the SMU 30. Then, throws a TD pass. The Green Wave is up 7-0 with 11:32 left in the first quarter.

SMU is without its top receiver and top runner. Two good runs to start SMU's first drive; then an incomplete pass on first down. Then a 40+ yard pass to the TE down to the Tulane 32. Then, a run down the sideline for a TD. 7-7.

Tulane stops SMU but not before SMU gets in range for a 48 yard field goal. 10-7.

SMU has the ball third and two deep in its own territory. End of the first quarter.

Another good SMU drive, but Tulane sacks Buechele on third and 7 to end it. The FG try is no good. Still 10-7.

Tulane has a nice drive going. First and ten inside SMU 40. Good run down to the SMU 12. Another tough run down to the SMU 3. SMU jumps on the hard count and Tulane gets a first down on the one and a half. End around doesn't work. QB throws a duck under pressure, but there is a flag in the end zone. First and goal again. QB sneak doesn't quite get there. QB sneak on next play is good. Tulane is up 14-10.

Buechele throwing SMU down the field, and then defensive pass interference near Tulane goal line gives SMU the ball first and 10 at the 15. Shane has 200 yards passing already in the first half. Third and five at the 10. Fade pass into the end zone. TD. 17-14. SMU up by three again.

Tulane goes 63 yards in 10 plays and kicks a short field goal to tie things up with 44 seconds to go in the half.

Halftime.
OT--according to ESPN, Mack is a 13.5 point favorite over FSU tomorrow.

SMU to receive second half kickoff.

SMU goes nowhere. Short punt gives Tulane the ball at midfield. 12 yard run on first down. . . . Tulane scores on 22 yard TD run. That runner has 115 yards on 11 carries.

SMU throws to a wide open receiver off of a reverse. And a facemask penalty moves it to the Tulane 10.

Flag in the end zone. Interference in the end zone.

First and goal from the two. Bentley runs it in on the next play. Tie game again.

On third and 21, SMU receiver takes a short pass on an underneath route for a huge gain inside Tulane red zone. Tulane forces it to a fourth and five. FG try. Delay of game on SMU. FG try again. 33 yarder is good. SMU is up by 3.

SMU holds Tulane and then Tulane returns the favor. The SMU punt is short and goes out of bounds at its own 42. A five yard penalty against SMU puts the ball at the SMU 37. . . . end of third quarter.

Tulane wounds itself with consecutive holding penalties. Third and 39. But then they heave a pass complete for first and goal. TD and Tulane takes the lead again at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

The receiver was wide open on that reverse pass. I don't see us being creative like that. I also love the naked bootleg by the QB where he can run or throw and usually the QB has good view of downfield. Also, why not have Rochon throw a half back pass. I am sure he can throw a lead pass or hit Sam in the flat.
Sometimes I think Herman just wants to win by brute force but guess what the other team lifts weights also.
I am going to put in an application as an advisor for OC and see what happens on the field.

Buechele completes slant for first and goal on another third down. Then a back shoulder pass for a TD. Is that seven lead changes? I've lost count.

Tulane completes a pass that the announcers did not notice was tipped. Lucky. Then another completion and another first down across the 45. Now SMU gets hit with a personal foul hands to the face penalty which takes the ball down to the SMU 33 with 3:45 to go. . . . third and nine. Complete pass to the SMU 11. Only a three man rush. Receiver was open.

Run inside the 10, and SMU takes a timeout to preserve some clock if Tulane scores.

Third and long--Tulane may get this ball back with time left. . . .nope. SMU completes pass and run inside Tulane 40. . . . incomplete pass. Third and long again just outside the target line for a field goal try. Tulane takes a timeout. UT transfer FG kicker won the game for SMU last week--will he get another chance? Incomplete pass. Fourth down. FG try from 57. Plenty long but hits the post. No good.

15 seconds and one timeout remaining for Tulane. QB scrambles down to SMU 35!! Timeout with 7 seconds left. 57 yard try. No good but nullified by false start. QB is in again to try quick pass and out of bounds, I guess. Incomplete pass with just 3 seconds to go. Hail Mary time. Pass caught out of bounds. Overtime. I'm tired. Anybody who wants to take this over is welcome to. ;)
