Budapest

Thinking of going for a few days in September. Does anyone have any thoughts or comments? I am thinking of staying at the Hilton in the Castle District, since I have some miles. But where should I eat and what should I see?

It has been 11 years since I was there, so my info may be way outdated. We ate at Gundel House Restaruant which is one of the oldest restaurants in the city. I recall the chocolat, walnut crepe for dessert being out-of-this-world good.

Strolling the city is fun, there are lots of interesting cafe's and restaurants all over. There are some good thermal spas, but I don't recall the names. I enjoyed going to statue park on the outskirts of town. They had all of the old communist/soviet era statues displayed.

If you go, read Prague: A Novel by Arthur Phillips. Despite the title, it is based in Budapest and recounts five Americans that meet there in the early 1990s. Not the best book ever, but a decent read and really and good for getting a feel of Budapest.
