Broken Toe

So I have a non-displaced fx of my lift big toe after dropping a 45lb plate on it at the gym. My regular Dr says to just lay off for 4-6 weeks and see him with any problems, or see a specialist. What would a specialist do?

my wife broke her big toe. i didn't think it was a big deal, but it took forever to fully heal. i've been told that broken big toes can become arthritic and take quite a while to get over.

Broke my left big toe last December riding (crashing) motocross. Foot came straight down on the toe, hard, jammed the bone up into the joint. Hurt for a while, Dr took an x-ray. Just waited for it to heal up. It's ok now but that big toe joint won't ever bend again. Cool.
