Broadband in Austin

I currently have Road Runner as my cable internet provider, but was wondering what other people have and how good it is. I'm on Riverside, and recently switched apartments (about 1/5 mile from my last one) and now my cable internet is crap. We get ping spikes and slow transfer rates at times, as well as periods with no service at all.

Is there any DSL in Austin that is good? Or non-time-warner cable services?? Please help.

Try having a Time Warner tech out to check your signal, sometimes that's a problem. Also, if you haven't swtiched from the Motorola network to the DOCSIS network, consider doing so.

also, join [email protected]

it's very helpful, the director of Time Warner Austin digital services, Peter Gregg, subscribes to it. He has the ability to send top level engineers to your place to diagnose problems.

I'm on year 2 of SBC DSL service. We run (ssshhh!) three computers (sometimes as many as 5) off of my residential line, and I've never had one lick of a problem with the service. Fast response times and guaranteed speed (within ranges). Of course, the downside is that you have to deal with the SBC customer service if you have a problem, and I've found their billing clerks to be about as knowledgeable as my *******, so that's an issue. But the DSL is great.

One year of the service was in central austin metro, this last four months or so is in round rock. Equally good.

I've had sbc dsl for almost a year and have had excellent service. One downtime that I knew of and that was fixed in a day.

I've actually had good experience with their support people; had a problem connecting once (don't remember the details) and had to call.
Their billing is another story; they still owe me a rebate. grrr.

I am waiting for Grande to get to my neighborhood. I currently have dial-up so I look forward to treating myself w/out giving cash to TW or SBC. Dial-up, blech.
