Brisket self heating

How long can a brisket self heat itself for? Assume its wrapped in foil, a beach towel, resting in a cooler, and was pulled off the smoker at ~175 degrees (random number).

How about a NON random number, like 225 to 250 (which is the 'accepted' proper range for smoking).

I have had a brisket stay perfectly warm when wrapped in 2 layers of foil & a towel, then in the cooler, for up to 3 hours.

I usually don't oven my briskets but might start doing this based on my experiences w/ the last one (I started with a 12 pounder). I took it to the C&TI tailgate last Saturday to rave reviews... even Hornian liked it; GOO would have enjoyed it as well, but he was busy demolishing portable furniture.

About 7 hours on the smoke, then oven for 2-ish & about 2 in the cooler.

Err, I meant it to read "pulled off the smoker with an internal temp of 175 degrees". I know to smoke at 225

My bad, Wolland - it was a 12.83 pound hunk 'o man meat to begin with.

I'm a bit on the odd side; I like my briskets in the vicinity of 12 - 14 lbs. maximum 'cause if I do two of them, I try different seasonings on each (plus, my Bandera unit won't take much more than a 14 pound cut placed corner to corner / angled).
