Bringing son to first game/band

Need some advice. I am bringing my 12yr old to his first game. I haven't been to a game in 10yrs. I am hoping to pick up some tickets there. Any advice as to where the best place to get tickets would be?

He plays in the band, so I also wanted to see the band march in. What time and where does the band march into the stadium?

I haven't been in ten years, so should I stay away from tix in the north end zone or are they ok?

All advice appreciated.

The band normally marches in about 30 minutes before kickoff (I think), which I think is pretty cool to see from under the stands as the band marches by, but then you don't see them march out on the field. This is also band alumni weekend, so that may be a little different. The alumni band is bigger than the regular band and when they both march out on the field together it fills the entire field from end zone to end zone, which is pretty cool.

There are scalpers selling tickets all around the perimeter of The University (you are not supposed to sell on campus), but you can probably find some alumni selling extra tickets around Scholz's at 17th and San Jacinto, also around the Alumni Center. I suspect tickets will be plentiful and below face value.

I think this is a great game to bring a young band member to, because the alumni band will also be there and when they all play it is really loud and pretty great to witness. My kids are also middle school age and band members, and the alumni band game is always their favorite.

Get there early (maybe 3 hours before kickoff) and just hang out on Bevo Blvd (17th Street between San Jac and Congress) and around Scholz's.

Have a great time!

Wish you had posted earlier as my dad was looking to unload some tickets. Generally speaking, they are buying on I35 and selling closer to the stadium. My limited personal experience is that south of the stadium, close to the tennis courts and the beer garden is the best place to buy. It is illegal to scalp once you get onto the campus so you wouldn't have to pay (or maybe even be allowed to pay) more than face, but I seriously doubt that tickets this weekend would command more than face anyway.

Not a band person so I can't really answer that aspect of your question, but it doesn't suck to go watch the players warm up. Just follow the crowds. Probably 45 minutes before the stated kickoff would be more than adequate, but I really don't know.

Little Earl gave better advice while I was typing. I think the band comes in from the North, don't they?

3 hours is a little much for a 12 year old though.

Buy him a big foam finger.

Yeah, you maybe right Nick about the 3 hours, but if you want to walk around campus and through the tail gating areas, you can eat up a lot of time.Grab a bite to eat somewhere, that sort of thing. Parking is always a challenge, so that is another reason to get there early.

Thanks for the reply's. I think we will try to get there early and walk around a little an dsee the sights. We'll try to be in our seats about 45 before kick to see the alumni band.

Thanks again

How about a post-game report. How did it go? Hope the magnitude of the beat down by Longhorns was not lost on your son.
