A thread dedicated to fond memories of game day experiences at DKR-TMS, as well as constructive suggestions on how we can improve the experience as it currently comes across. We'll even periodically recap and escalate to the powers that be.

Let's here it here and now!!!

From posts on another thread -

Things to remember from the good ole days:

1. Horns up and feet making noise on the wooden seats for kickoff.

2. Almost the entire stadium yelling "Go! Go! Go, Horns Go!!!" with arms waving and Horns motioning in the direction needed for the score.

3. Cheerleaders who were really into the game (where is Bill Melton when you need him).

4. And yes, no overbearing electronics (but let's remember, so many on here were so boastful of Godzillatron until it roared).

5. The sound of the Longhorn Band drum section reverberating under the stands like an earthquake-in-waiting before the game, giving notice that they were about to enter the stadium. AWESOME!!!! And "The Eyes" outside the locker room after the game (true, we don't have the acoustic opportunities we did, but there's got to be a substitute out there somewhere.)

6. 'Blanket Tax' seats (receipt, only, until the card was issued). I fondly remember getting to a game early and seeing a section of seats on the 50 blocked/reserved for the "SWC Sportsmanship Committee Representatives", only to have some clever dudes and their dates arrive just before kickoff to tear the sign away and take the seats they had cleverly saved.

7. Remembering when we 'arrived' and had our card section for the first time. Seriously, I doubt you could get today's students to do a card section - so many would be looking to establish their Youtube/Facebook moment it'd never happen, not at Texas.

8. The knothole section.

9. Going down on the field after games.

10. The six flags of Texas at the end of the stadium.

11. Some big local high school games in the stadium.

12. The Jumbotron could be financed for by a donor -- anybody want their family name up there for Eternity? -- and certain overall revenue, then used as a University / Conference promotional board only. LOSE the advertising, and stop the Higher-Than-Necessary Decibels, and alternate during stoppages of play with low level background sounds/music while showing ads for
(a) fine arts recitals and other events,
(b) other sports such as volleyball, swimming, etc.
(c) promotions for graduate programs,
(d) announcements of achievement, grants, special recognition.

13. LIMIT the number of on-field recognitions to one per half, one before kickoff and one at half-time, no more than four per game.

14. End the on-field contests and stuff that Erwin Center thrives on.

I say send godzillatron to aggy so they can be miserable like we have been.

When I was at Texas from 1966 to 1970, the card section seats were desired because they were the best student seats.

Remember the car that would come in with the cheer leaders with the horn blaring "The Eyes of Texas are Upon You."

I know we won't bring the track back, but it sure made the entrance of the band and cheerleaders much more spectacular - figuratively pulling the entire stadium into the game.

How about putting the students back on the sideline making noise.Bothers me that these kids only have 4 years at UT and can't get better seats and game experience. I remember drawing tickets on the 35/40 yard line in the early seventies and we were loud as hell behind the opponents bench.

"The sound of the Longhorn Band drum section reverberating under the stands like an earthquake-in-waiting before the game, giving notice that they were about to enter the stadium. AWESOME!!!!"

Being IN the LHB and INSIDE that group creating a man made earthquake before we busted out into the sunshine of Memorial Stadium!

There are 12 flagpoles on top of the east side upper deck. All of the conference school flags are flown, with the UT flag and our conference opponent of the day flown in the two center poles.

During the '99 Nebraska game, late in the 4th when we secured the win, folks on the top row of the East Side upper deck lowered the Nebraska flag to half mast. This needs to become a tradition.

Also, not a DKRTMS tradition, but at the TX - OU game in the 80's and 90's, a red OU flag was placed underneath Bevo's rear end. When Bevo took care of business on the flag, the whole north end zone would cheer.

aw, being seated in the card section--good times, even though you always had some a-hole not put up the correct color--that would be a nostalgic take on yester-year to bring those back!

Remember when....................... sometime in the 3rd quarter of an already safe game, the band would split into small groups and pop back into the stadium at different entrances on the west side and play something?

No canned music at all, especially rap.

Get rid of the ads around the edges of Godzillatron and use the entire screen for video replays. Isn't that what it's for?

Show a replay after every single play and get it up on the screen faster. Nobody's going to watch a replay when the team is lining up for the next snap.

Get rid of the annoying weather report at the start. Man, that guy bugs me.

Add a moment of silence after the pledge and before kick-off.

Bring back white shoes and socks with our uniforms for home games. Man, those black socks look like ***.
