Briles hating

i have seen a lot of people on this board dumping big time on Briles when his name gets trotted out as a successor coach. I don't know much about him except he was at Houston and was very successful in high school.

Can some of the haters explain to me why I should detest him too?
 
I don't consider myself a Briles hater but I have not been a fan due to an interview I saw a couple years ago. Briles was an arrogant *** in the interview as far as I was concerned. There was a lot of finger pointing and blame toward larger schools in general. I do not recall if he was still at UH or was at BU.

I saw a recent interview where he was very engaging and seemed like a decent guy that loved where he was and where BU was going. There was none of the personality issues I saw in the earlier interview.

I feel that Mack will be around for awhile and that the coaching landscape will change enough by that time that speculation on his replacement is not worth the effort. I also feel the average fan has extremely little, if any, impact on the selection of the next UT coach. This is a BIG money, top level decision that has little to do with fan desires. Frustrating but there it is.
 
I can't seem to find it on Lexis-Nexus, but he gave some quote after we dismantled them in Austin in 2008 about how they would have stayed neck-and-neck with us if Griffin hadn't gotten hurt and thrown a pick returned for a TD when it was tied 14-14 in the 2nd quarter (we went on to win by 24). Keep in mind that this was the week after the Tech game, and before OU had the chance to play Tech. In the coaches poll. he then moved us down from his prior ranking (you know... the week after the Tech loss...) below OU. Meanwhile, the AP moved us up that weekend. It was utter ********.

On top of that, he was whiny as hell about the benefits that big schools like Texas and OU received, yet he jumped pretty quickly to the Big 12 when he had the opportunity.

And finally, he does some shady **** at Baylor with regards to player personnel, and everyone knows it, but no one's willing to prove it because it's Baylor. Seastrunk wouldn't have bolted from his Oregon problems unless something was going down. Guys like Ahmad Dixon, who has been pretty damn good against Texas after decommitting from us, leaves the chance to play for Akina so he can play for Phil Bennett?

His mentor and idol is John Jenkins. Has there ever been a bigger or more classless piece of **** roam a sideline? Briles is cut from the same ilk.

As was indicated above, there aren't nearly as many "Deacons" around Floyd Casey as many at the SBC would like for you to think.

As we say in East Texas, "He ain't our kind of people".
 
briles is a total dick. i dont think he'd be able to handle the donor relations part of being the UT head coach.

but the results he produces are undeniable.

will be interesting to see whether baylor can sustain their success when they go against decent defenses.
 
He may be a jerk, but he nuked any chance at coaching at Texas by his final vote in the 2008 Coach's Poll. Tech, Texas and ou were tied for the South Division title and final BCS rankings would decide who would go to the CCG. After Texas spanked Baylor 45-21 Briles voted Texas 12th in the Coach's Poll which effectively ranked ou over Texas.
 
Really? still blaming Briles for us losing to Tech?

Beat Tech and this is a non-issue, excuse makers man how do you people survive in the world?
 
Maybe a little bit better clock management by Mack at the end would have helped. Left tt with too much time.
 
How about the two yahoos not being able cover or tackle Crabtree after his catch with time running out??
 
both yahoos made it to the pros for a while, no?

Crabtree outweighed them both considerably and they were all running towards the sidelines and only MC was able to stop his progress, wheel and turn. It was a tough route to defend and a terrific receiver. No shame in the failed effort
 
No one is blaming Briles for losing to Tech. We're saying that the week after the Tech game, when we handled Briles and OU handled a pissant A&M, Briles made OU jump us in the coaches poll, despite the facts that A: we lost the week before, not THAT week, and B: we beat OU earlier in the season.
 
I like him. Perhaps the fact that this post is on the Recruiting forum explains why a lot of people hate him. Ohh I don't know, since well, Baylor out-recruits is more or less, these days?

Seems irrational though. Mack has no excuse for being out-recruited with the resources we have. I hate Mack for that.
 
Out recruited? I have noticed Baylor , a small private school that is historically bad at athletics is now garnering great recruits in all of their sports. Last time I remember that happening was SMU before they got the death penalty.
Baylor appears to be dirty to me. Just an opinion, I have no proof just doesn't pass the smell test.
 
Oh... is that something I missed?... Did we have a pact not to talk about that, which I didn't know about?

I am not Briles' agent and I have never met him. All I know is that UH sucked and he made them great for thier level and Baylor really sucked and now they are ranked and one of the better teams in the confernce.

None of the posts on this thread say anything real about him. It is all just BS.

I think he is a very good candidate to move down I35 and take himself to the next level and turn our program around in one year.

We can be sure that he will not try to turn the next RGIII into a defensive player.

I feel like Bob Stoops hopes UT does not hire Briles.
 
My sense is that Art Briles is like a Rottweiler bred for fighting. He's outstanding at what he does (in terms of winning), but also one-dimensional and not the kind of dog/coach you would want as a well-rounded representative of your whole family (or institution).

I feel similarly about Mike Leach, with Art Briles being the drier and less witty of the two. Both men seem like the type that would go scorched-earth on you if/when things turn south between them and their organizations.
