Brent Barry Opts to Re-join Spurs

So you think the Stackhouse decision means that nobody should ever be able to join a former team again unless they've played for someone else in the interim?

Maybe because the Spurs didn't pre-arrange a deal in which it was ordained that Barry would definitely be coming back to SA?

Not a double standard at all. What the NBA says is that you cannot have a pre-arranged deal (which is what the Mavs admitted was being done) where the player will be waived and then come back to the team that traded him. That's a no-no. Barry damn near signed with his friend Steve Kerr in Phoenix - there was obviously no pre-arranged deal for him to come back to SA. There's the difference.

The last thing I heard prior to the "real" trade being made with NJ is that the NBA would not prevent Stack to returning to the Mavs. Afterall, it's their 30-day rule that was being followed.

Well, its all a lot of what-ifs regarding Stackhouse, since he was never actually traded. The rumblings from the commish's office were just that--there was no hard and fast ruling that would have prevented him from coming back to the Mavs, as far as I know.

Every single team besides the Spurs had the opportunity to claim Brent Barry off waivers for a 48 hour period after he was let go by the Sonics. Pre-arranged deal or not, the Spurs could have done nothing if another team would have claimed him.

Spurs and Barry were simply smart enough on how to go about the deal. Stack and the Mavs were not

as Spurs fans though, let's not kid ourselves and think this wasn't pre-arranged. Of course it was.

I agree with those noting Stackshouse's idiocy. That moron pretty much publicly screwed the pooch. Barry considered his options, and made his call.

Barry > Stackhouse

Stackhouse had nothing to do with the Mavs deal not going down....George refused to be traded because of his "Larry Bird" rights and that caused the trade to be reconfigured. Stack's deal and Barry's deal were exactly the same and the League would have treated them both the same.
