double pumping Medela branded I assume is the best one? Seems to be a range of 200$ ->350$ on their pumps. What are the features that are nice, what is not needed?
She's getting the double pumping kind for sure. <3 weeks to go.
I have the Medela pump in style advanced. I got it from babycenter.com for $255 and free shipping, which is the best deal I could find. It's on right now for $279, but keep an eye on it -- they mark it down often.store.babycenter.com/product/code/17710.do
I haven't gotten to use it yet but everything I've read says it's the best if you have to pump a lot (i.e., if you're going back to work after baby is born).
If you're planning on breasfeeding for a while it's cheaper to buy one. Hospitals charge around $40-$60/month. Plus, the thought of using something that was once attached to someone else's boobs like that skeeves me out.
Ok so there are once again a lot of internet places out there. My parents own a store here in Austin called Special Addition. They carry all the different products and have classes and a train staff to show you how to operate the equipment. They are a great source for getting all this type of stuff. If you are going to buy the stuff on-line and then go in and ask for help, don't expect to get much, as they are a businees designed to cater to clients that are purchasing through them. They also have trained lacation consultants in the store to help out your wife if she is having problem. The Link
Go with the Medela. My wife used hers for three babys over 8 years and it pumped like a charm the whole time. One of the best things we bought kid wise.
Don't forget to donate your extra milk to the milk bank. My wife donated several hundred ounces over the years and it's a cool deal.
More props for Special Addition. We had twins last April and relied on them extensively - clothes (baby and mom), lactation consultants, breast pump rentals, UT baby gear...
I have the Medela Pump in Style and it's great. The manual one is TOO much work, trust me. I breastfed for a year and I would have thrown a manual pump out the window after 2 days. (Call me a hippy, but my daughter is 13 months old and I'm still breastfeeding her).
Good for you and your wife to decide to breast feed...it's a wonderful thing!
I used the manual Avent Isis pump. It's very very comfortable and really easy to operate. It worked better for me than the plug in types. Maybe get that as back up or as an alternate?
Bringing this back up...has anyone ever used one of the Medela Pump in Styles overseas? We are going to London and wondering what type of adaptor/converter to use with it. Thanks.
