Brazil Argentina...

How cold is it in Buenos Aires, Rio during August? Is the temperature that much different in October? Is the beach in play for either month?

Trying to plan a trip, thx.

I think that Buenos Aires' "local" beaches are out of the question. It is basically February and that is cold. It has been the coldest Fall (May) on record, so who knows what that means for the weather other than it isn't as predictable as usual.

Rio is a ton farther north than BA. That being said, I don't know if it is far enough north to be warm.

Of course, if you go to Bahia, it will be warm as **** up there. For some reason, the equator doesn't really care what time of the year it is. It's just pretty much always hot.

So even October is too cold for beaches? Is that a good time to visit or do you think the proper "experience" can only be had in the warmer months.

Sorry, I just thought that you were saying that since October is good, is August good?

I don't know really. I just know that it is cold right now in Buenos Aires and it hasn't even gotten to Winter yet.

Also, Buenos Aires doesn't have beaches right here in town like Rio does. In Rio, you have tons of places to stay either ON or within a few blocks of Ipanema Beach and Copacobana Beach. I think the beaches of Buenos Aires are several miles from town.

We'll let someone else chime in who knows more.

WCH, left Brazil last July 31 after a 3 yr overseas assignment. The temp that last week was low-mid 80's and sunny. It can be hit and miss in August but mostly hit. It never gets cold. Mid-upper 60's on a cloudy afternoon is the worst I experienced in 3 Rio "winters". Good thing about August is that even on really warm days the Ipanema Beach (lived 3 blocks from there) is reasonably uncrowded compared to Dec-Mar. October is a great time of year to go for good weather.

Stay away from Copacabana Beach. Water is dirty and a lot more people from the favelas go there as oppossed to Ipanema. It is a great city but be really careful.

One good bar tip after going to the beach in Ipanema. Go to "Informal" on Barao da Torre. It's only 3 blocks off the beach and the Brahma draft beer is the best in the city. Try the pastel as well. Enjoy.

I really miss living there.............

No prob w/ the PM's. One other thing I didn't mention. I was in BA for a week at the beginning of August. Cool to cold mornings and cool to less cool afternoons. easily 15-20 degrees cooler than Rio.
