Branson, MO

I'm thinking of taking my Dad to Branson, he's a huge fan of old country and I think he'd like it.
I've never been and know nothing about it. I've done some research, but would like to get any opinons or advice from my fellow Hornfans on places to stay, things to do, time of year, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Stay at Big Cedar Lodge. Branson will get old pretty quick, but Big Cedar is awesome.

My parents just went, but they have a cabin in MO and do it as a day trip so I have no hotel advice. Their review:

Its hell if you're under 65, but I remember seeing some badass Asian that played a mean violin/fiddle.

Don't hate. Branson is just like Las Vegas, if it were run by Ned Flanders.

Lambert's does kick ***. The portions are huge, but if you finish they will bring you another for free. Silver Dollar City is nice, as it is about half old-timey stuff, half amusement park. There are enough concert halls on the strip that on any saturday night, someone you've heard of should be playing.
