Very interesting to say the least. Some will no doubt take advantage of it, but I think that numeber will grow and plateau at some point as some of these guys will no doubt prove that they aren't what they were hyped up to be.
I don't think this will become a trend; the Euro style of ball is too different from the NBA. Mainly though, his Euro coach isn't going to give two-shits about getting this guy in a position to be a high draft pick, while Lute would have had a vested interest in him developing into a high pick (to add to the program's prestige/attract future recruits.) I'm sure there are a lot of other reasons this move is not in the best interests of his long term basketball career.
OJ Mayo considered doing this two years ago. Probably a wise choice on his part not to. I would love to see Jennings end up in the Spanish ACB League and go head-to-head against Ricky Rubio.
Yeah, like he didn't know it was likely Bayless would opt for the NBA after one year. That explains getting a top point guard in three straight recruiting classes. The Link
That explains O'Neill's comment last fall that it still made sense to recruit Bayless. The Link
And we are talking about a kid who was recruited by UA since he was 14, committed, decommitted, and recommitted all before starting his senior year in HS.
Just another instance of Lute Olson's disconnect from reality.
I hope I'm wrong for the kid's sake but I think he won't go in the top 15 in next year's draft. He won't stand out enough over there for all of the reasons pointed out in the thread that was started a couple of weeks ago on this subject.
